I think Chapters 3 and 4 and 5 were the gems; Chapter netwotk covered transport-layer protocols and TCP specifically in pretty good depth, Chapters 4 and 5 covered the networking layer split into a chapter on the Data Plane Ch.
As far as college textbooks go, it was pretty good. A really nice textbook. This material is protected under all copyright laws, as they currently exist. This boo This is one of the best technical books I’ve read.

For me, this textbook was a pretty dry read and I sometimes had trouble pushing through the weekly reading assignments. Chapter 1 has been updated to reflect the ever-growing reach and use of the Internet. The rest of the homework problems from the book weren’t too bad. Learning how to “think paranoid” is harder.
